Yorktown Cops: Man Steals $1,900 Worth of Jewelry from Sears

A 56-year-old Brooklyn man was caught leaving a department store in Yorktown with more than $1,900 worth of jewelry and charged with a felony grand larceny, Yorktown police said. 

Sears' security personnel reported to Yorktown police that the shoplifter was in custody on Aug. 21 at 4:32 p.m. Investigation revealed Glen R. Avery had exited the store without attempting to pay for 12 assorted articles of jewelry valued at a total of $1,929.88.

Avery was also accompanied by an unidentified man who fled the scene prior to the arrival of police, according to a police report. 

Avery was arrested at the scene and transported to police headquarters. He was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony.

The man was remanded to the Westchester County Jail without bail and scheduled to appear in Yorktown Town Court on Aug. 22.
