A 22-year-old Cortlandt woman is facing several criminal charges in Yorktown, including drunk driving and two counts of felony vehicular assault, following a head-on collision that seriously injured another driver, Yorktown police said.

The two-vehicle accident occurred on July 9 on Crompond Road near the intersection with Pine Grove Court when Arielle Szalkowski crossed the double yellow line and hit the other driver's car, according to an article in the Journal News

Szalkowski, who less serious injuries while driving while intoxicated, was transported by ambulance to the Westchester County Medical Center, police said. While still in the hospital, she was charged with driving while intoxicated.

The driver of the other car was seriously injured and transported to the Westchester Medical Center for having reportedly suffered severe head trauma. The 18-year-old Yorktown man, who was on his way home from work at Pizza Hut in Mohegan Lake, was on a respirator and in a medically induced coma earlier this week, according to the Journal News.

After being released from the hospital, Szalkowski responded to Yorktown police headquarters on July 16 where she was additionally charged with two counts of first-degree vehicular assault, a felony; and aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor, for driving with alcohol content of .18% or higher.

According to the Journal News article, this is Szalkowski's second DWI charge. She had been previously charged with drunk driving in 2010, following an accident on Old Crompond Road in Yorktown.

The woman was remanded to the Westchester County Department of Corrections in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond. She was scheduled to appear in Yorktown Town Court on July 23.
