Troopers: Mohegan Lake Man Found with 20 Grams of Marijuana

The information was provided by New York State Police. It does not indicate a conviction.

A 24-year-old Mohegan Lake man was found in possession of marijuana after police stopped him for not wearing a seat belt, New York State troopers said.

Troopers conducted an Occupant Safety Detail on the Taconic State Parkway on Dec. 28. During this detail, 21 tickets were issued for seat belt and other violations.

Subsequent to a vehicle and traffic stop, police detected a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the Mohegan Lake man's vehicle. Police found 20.3 grams of marijuana.

The man was processed and released. He was scheduled to appear in Yorktown Town Court on Jan. 17.

Why isn't his name listed?
Jeanne Gilholm January 03, 2013 at 02:36 PM
That's funny, I was going to ask the same thing.
Jeff McCraw January 03, 2013 at 02:38 PM
Why do we care what his name is? There are bigger crimes going on in our area that we should be more concerned with.. Maybe the person selling all the bad heroin that killed 2 people last month. The person selling the heroin and the crack to the high school kids, destroying futures. Those are names that should be posted in the papers. Who cares about a guy who had pot??

Jeff you are right on the money, who cares about weed. If you ask Police Officers almost everyone belives that it should be decriminalized. It's a waste of money time and danger to our Police.

I'm sure the kids who died on heroin smoked weed first

Thanks for the comments. Unlawful possession of marijuana is a violation and a violation is not a crime. Patch does not publish the names of people who have been charged with a violation.

Jill that is the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard. And I'm sure the kids who smoked heroin who smoked pot first had drunk alcohol before smoking pot. You want to talk about a gateway drug, then alcohol is it, not pot. Those who chose to do hard drugs are going to do them regardless, whether they smoked pot first or not.
peter smith January 03, 2013 at 05:03 PM
It already IS decriminalized. This article is about as useful as an article written about a man who got caught speeding.
Bung Holio January 03, 2013 at 07:18 PM
Betcha they all drank milk before smoking weed or using alcohol. Milk, the new gateway drug?
Lanning Taliaferro (Editor) January 03, 2013 at 08:34 PM
Hi, Jeff McGraw, can you tell me where the deaths occurred last month? I did find news about bad heroin killing two men in Ireland in October - http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2012/1006/breaking4.html
peter smith January 03, 2013 at 08:49 PM
Lanning you won't find any articles on the two deaths last month. Plemena was too busy writing about Pot. They were in the mohegan lake, Cortlandt Manor, and Yorktown Heights area.

I bet he is referring to this: http://www.lohud.com/article/20121213/NEWS/312130118/Heroin-s-hold-northern-suburbs-top-priority-cops-counselors

I was just reading moderate alcohol consumption is good for the heart. Technically there could be something called "medicinal beer". Attaching "medicinal" to weed is even more bizarre. I'm not for harsh jail terms for weed so I guess I am for decriminalization without making it legal.
peter smith January 03, 2013 at 10:18 PM
Moderate alcohol consumption is good for the heart... when it's got antioxidants (red wine). Alcohol by definition is a poison for our bodies.
Jeff McCraw January 03, 2013 at 10:26 PM
Lanning, open your eyes. Kids are dying in our very own neighborhoods. Ireland? Geez, I wish I could be as oblivious as you.
Mike Rodriques January 04, 2013 at 12:10 PM
I can;t believe that we're still having this arguement as a country. If alcohol, and tobacco are legal, then pot should be legal we well. It's certaily less dangerous than alcohol. Legalize it already!
Slavyavy January 08, 2013 at 08:22 PM
OHHH Jill it's because of people like you.. and I'm sure they drank alcohol too what's ur point why stop there.. If weed was legalized and could be obtained at a medical dispensary then they would not have a get it through a drug dealer (Black market) who will also offer them heroin coke guns ect while they are picking up weed!! Weed is harmless not that it's good for them but it's harmless .. don't compare it to heroin or say it's a gateway way drug that's 90's talk. If so lets legalize alcohol too
Slavyavy January 08, 2013 at 08:24 PM
haha love it
Slavyavy January 08, 2013 at 08:28 PM
Agreed with Mike .. stop wasting out tax $$ on this crap already !! LEGALIZE IT YOU DON"T SEE WEED ADDICTS AT AA MEETING DO YOU ?
