Somers Residents Can Dispose of Prescription Medication Safely

Somers residents are encouraged to safely dispose of their unwanted medication at the prescription drug collection box inside the Somers Police Department.

"The program provides an environmentally safe alternative to dispose of medications in the landfill or sewer systems which can later negatively affect the environment," Somers Chief of Police Michael W. Driscoll said.

Residents can remove medications, they no longer need, from their homes and bring them to the police department. The town has obtained a steel mailbox disposal vault through the Westchester Coalition for Drug and Alcohol Free Youths.

"By doing so, you reduce access to addictive medications for accidental or intentional misuse by children or adults in the home," Driscoll said.

The collection box is located immediately inside the front entrance of the Somers Police Department, located at 98 Primrose Street (Van Tassell Park).

The hours when the prescription drugs could be dropped off are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Other hours can be arranged by calling 914-232-9622.
