Report: Yorktown Fire Destroys Home, Neighbors Rescue Woman

A Wildwood Street fire that destroyed a home and left six people injured on Sunday has displaced a family of five, according to an article in The Journal News.

More than 150 firefighters from eight departments responded to the blaze on a windy and chilly day. They found the home engulfed in flames and smoke at around 11:30 a.m., Alex Taylor reported.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Two neighbors – Brian Avery and Robert Cole – helped a woman "climb out of a second-story window and down to safety with a 20-foot extension ladder" that Avery had grabbed from his garage, according to the paper.

The woman was treated for smoke inhalation, while three firefighters and two other people suffered minor injuries, according to the article

The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the family.
