Report: Somers Man, 20, Claims Police Brutality

A 20-year-old Somers man, who was a passenger in a car that crashed on Miller Avenue in Somers Monday night, claims he was beaten by a state trooper while he was under arrest, The Journal News has reported

The man was one of four vehicle occupants who fled on foot following the crash, state police said. 

Terence Corcoran, of The Journal News, reported that the man was found in the woods by troopers and that when police approached him, he had tried to assault them. The man claimed he was beaten by police before he arrived at the Somers barracks, The Journal News reported.

He was treated at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco where he had two CAT scans, according to the article.

The single-car crash on Monday, that damaged a homeowner's property, led to a police chase and a helicopter search after the vehicle's four occupants fled on foot, police said.

On Wednesday, police said the driver of the vehicle, another 20-year-old Somers man, was arrested Tuesday night and charged with third-degree attempted assault and several traffic tickets, including leaving the scene of a property damage automobile accident.
