Police Investigate Bank Robbery in Cortlandt Town Center

Reported and written by Ashley Tar

[Update, posted 12:45 p.m. Wednesday] Police have released a description and photos (see above) of the man who made off with a few thousand dollars Wednesday morning.

State Police Lt. James Murphy described him as a black man in his early to mid-40s. He is about 6 feet tall and he was wearing an Adidas shirt when the crime took place.

The man reportedly entered the store alone. He kept his hands in his pockets and "did not display a weapon but threatened one," Murphy said.

After he took the money the man fled toward Peekskill in a red, four-door sedan, which may have been a BMW, according to officials. They're asking that anyone who knows someone matching that description call the State Police in Cortlandt at 917-788-8044.

Authorities said it's unknown whether there was anyone else in the car when the man fled.

Murphy said police are using surveillance video in their investigation, and that the camera in the store captured a good photo of the suspect.

The probe included forensics experts searching for DNA and fingerprints in the store, as well as helicopters used for surveillance.

[Update, posted 12:15 p.m. Wednesday] The police tape blocking one of the entrances to the store, which is open, has been removed.
