Former OHS Teacher Sentenced in Student Sex Case

John Azabache avoided jail time with his plea bargain; his sex-offender status has yet to be determined.

Former Ossining High School teacher John Azabache will not serve jail time, according to the Hudson Valley Reporter.

Azabache, who pleaded guilty in September to one count of third-degree rape, was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years sex offender probation.

He had been charged with two counts of rape after police learned from a 16-year-old student's parents that she had had sex with her teacher twice, several months before.

The Port Chester resident was arrested just before he was to be married. The wedding was called off.

The court has still to determine what level of sex offender status he will be given, the Hudson Valley Reporter said.
