Firefighters Extinguish Yorktown Fire

The fire at 1358 Kitchawan Road in Yorktown Wednesday evening caused minimal damage to the home.

Firefighters from several area departments battled a fire that was contained to the chimney and chimney chase of a Kitchawan Road home Wednesday evening.

Yorktown Heights Fire Department firefighters were called to 1358 Kitchawan Road in Yorktown at 5:47 p.m.

A total of 50 firefighters from several area departments responded to the scene. They were able to extinguish the fire in about 30 minutes with minimal damage to the rest of the home, Yorktown Heights Fire Department Captain Paul Dillon told Patch.

The fire does not appear to be suspicious, Dillon said. The Westchester County Cause and Origin Team is still investigating to determine the cause.

Firefighters from Yorktown, Millwood and Ossining fire departments were on the scene. Lake Mohegan and Mt. Kisco fire departments were on standby.

Dillon said the bad weather and getting the fire apparatus to the scene was the only difficulty they experienced while battling the fire.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
