Fire Damages Garage of House in Quarry Acres

Firefighters knock down fire at N. Fourth Street scene in Cortlandt in rain, wind.

Fire gutted the attached garage of a house in the Quarry Acres section of Cortlandt Sunday night.

Led by Mohegan Lake, firefighters from several departments, including Buchanan and Peekskill, battled the blaze at 35 N. Fourth Street, at the corner of Cobblestone Lane, in heavy rain and gusty winds. Firefighters were still at the scene well after midnight.

There was no immediate report on the cause of the fire, which left an acrid smell in the residential neighborhood south of Route 202 near the Cortlandt/Yorktown border.

A firefighter reportedly suffered three broken fingers while fighting the fire. There were no immediate reports of other injuries.
