Door-to-Door Driveway Scam in Cortlandt

State Police arrest unlicensed contractors in Cortlandt Manor.

New York State Police arrested four unlicensed home improvement contractors in Cortlandt.
All four men—residents of New York and Tennessee—were charged with the Class "A" Misdemeanor of Operating as an Unlicensed Home Improvement Contractor, in violation of Westchester County Law.

State Police said they were contacted by Cortlandt Manor homeowners who believed that they had been conned following driveway sealing work performed by the men.

A trooper responding to the call located the men nearby and took them into custody.
They were processed and released after each posting $500 bail and were ordered to appear in Cortlandt town Court April 4.

After being released on these charges, one of the men, a 30-year-old from Schaghticoke NY, was turned over to State Police investigators in Ulster County where he was wanted for another alleged home improvement scam.
Anyone who feels they may have been victimized by these subjects is urged to contact the State Police at 914-737-7171.
All citizens are also reminded in general to be cognizant when contractors go door-to-door in an attempt to generate business, police said.
