Hudson Valley Could Face a Brush Fire Like New Jersey's

Dry, windy conditions that push fires out of control have put the region on a Red Flag Alert.

The entire Hudson Valley is under a Red Flag Warning with conditions similar to those in Berkeley NJ, where hundreds of acres are burning in a rapidly moving brush fire.

A combination of gusty winds, very low humidity and dry woods led to the National Weather Service's "Red Flag Warning" alert today.

"The combination on windy conditions and low relative humidity values will lead to a more rapid spread rate of any fires that may develop," according to the alert on the NWS website.

High wind, low humidity and a dry forest have made the NJ blaze a "Class 5 fire," which is the most dangerous type, Berkeley officials said.

According to Hudson Valley Weather,  there's plenty of combustible fuel—dead vegetation from winter. In New York there's a regionwide burn ban. People should also be extra careful disposing of cigarettes.
