Is Your Home Energy Efficient?

New York State has programs for free or low-cost home energy assessments, rebates for upgrades, and low-interest loans, to help homeowners reduce their energy costs.

Is your home energy efficient?

About half of our energy use takes place in our homes, mostly for heating in the winter and cooling in the summer. Almost every one of our homes can be made more energy efficient. A few simple upgrades can save 30 percent on our energy bills. Perhaps, more importantly, putting in proper insulation and leak sealing can reduce drafts and make our homes more comfortable.

New York’s NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research and Development Authority) has programs for free or low-cost home energy assessments, rebates for upgrades, and low-interest loans, to help homeowners reduce their energy costs.

I recently had a free home energy assessment done. I followed up with putting new insulation in the attic, insulation around the foundations, and leak sealing. The predicted payback is less than 10 years. However, my home did feel warmer and less drafty immediately.

The Yorktown Energy Advisory Committee and GreenYorktown will host a presentation by Elyssa Rothe, Westchester Coordinator for NYSERDA's Energy $mart Communities Program, Monday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Yorktown Town Hall.

You are invited to learn how you can get a free or low-cost home energy assessment and incentives for home energy upgrades. You can make your home more comfortable and save money on heating. Everyone who attends will receive a free CFL bulb.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
