Longtime Yorktown Resident, Past NYFD Chief Dies at 84

James B. Langan was a member of the New York City Fire Department.

From the : James B. Langan of Yorktown Heights passed away on July 27. He was 84. 

He was born on Jan. 25, 1928 in the Bronx to Thomas and Elizabeth Langan and serviced honorably in the US Army. On Oct. 1, 1950 James married Dorothy Koch at St. Benedicts Church. Langan was a member of the New York City Fire Department and served as a Chief of the 10th Battalion before retiring in 1991.

Langan is survived by his daughter Susan Palumbo (Dennis), three grandsons; Dennis Jr., Matthew, and Michael, and brother Thomas. Langan is predeceased by his wife Dorothy and daughter Patricia Langan Mrsich.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, July 30 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday at (main) at 10:15 a.m.. Entombment to follow at Ferncliff Cemetery.
