Funeral is June 5 for John R. Carpi

John Rosario Carpi devoted father, husband and grandfather of Somers, NY, passed away peacefully at home on June 1 with his wife at his side. He was 86 years old.

He was born on Nov. 17, 1927 in Bronx, NY, to Valerio Frank and Giovanna Carpi, who had immigrated to the United States from Italy.

John, or Sonny to his family and close friends, was many things to many people - from a colleague to a friend to a confidant to an uncle and brother. But mostly he was a father and a husband. He brought a quiet patience and smile to everything he did, whether celebrating birthdays with his children or maintaining the house.

John worked hard to achieve success for himself and his family. He sold lemons on the streets of the Bronx as a young boy and, with a knack for electronics, soon went into the electronics trade, cleaning and repairing parts. He found success with an early electronics company, the Bunker Ramo Corporation, and soon moved up to a management position.

He started his family in the South End of Hartford and soon took the risky but successful step of establishing his own business, a well-respected hearing aid dealership, in Hartford, West Hartford and Manchester, CT.

John dedicated himself to his family and friends. He was admired by all who knew him for generosity of character and willingness to lend a hand, ear and smile. And he was loved by his children who he took fishing, hiking, and skiing, though he himself did not ski. He took his family on adventures throughout his life and taught his children the art of living.

John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Angelina; his three children, John of New Canaan Anthony of New Canaan, and Valerio, of Westport, and his eight grandchildren.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, June 4 from 4 to 8 p.m at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Rd., Katonah, NY. The funeral will be held on Thursday, June 5 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Saint Joseph’s, 95 Plumbrook Rd., Somers, NY.
