$42K Raised for Family of Jim Lovell, Local Train Crash Victim

An online campaign dedicated to raising money for the family of Jim Lovell—the 58-year-old Cold Spring resident who died in Sunday's train derailment at the Spuyten Duyvil curve in the Bronx—has netted more than $42,300 as of Monday afternoon.

Friends and neighbors created the GoFundMe page for Lovell's family. His wife, Nancy Montgomery, sits on the Philipstown town board.

The page reads:

"Dear Friends & Neighbors:

Today the Hudson Valley community lost an extraordinary human being. Jim Lovell, a loving husband and father, was an incredible neighbor, friend and incredibly kind soul. Stunned by this tragic news, we are coming together to help Nancy, Finn, Jack and Hudson with this campaign.

This GoFundMe page has been created so everyone can easily donate as little or as much as they can. Please feel free to pass this page on to any of your friends/family who may be interested in participating."

Some of the 400-plus donations are anonymous. Many are from coworkers.

Lovell was an audio technician for the Today show, and he was headed to Manhattan to help prepare for the tree lighting at Rockefeller Center. Read more about him here, and click here to read the email coworkers received about Lovell's death.
