October 2012 is National Physical Therapy Month

What you need to know to stay fit after 50

October 2012 is National Physical Therapy Month. This year’s theme focuses on Staying Fit after 50. Currently, there are 78 million Baby Boomers in the United States and many are overweight or obese. This places these individuals at a greater risk for chronic health conditions such as heart disease, type 2 - diabetes, and certain cancers.

According to the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), as we age, we often lose flexibility, strength, and balance, which makes staying fit after 50 challenging, even for the most determined Baby Boomers. Working with a physical therapist, can help you address these challenges, maintain fitness, and avoid injury.

At Physical Therapy at Briarcliff & Jefferson Valley, PC our staff of licensed physical therapist can help you achieve your fitness goals, as they take an individual approach and consider any pre-existing conditions or diseases that you may have and work to tailor a plan that is specific to your unique needs.

Beginning Oct. 1 – Nov. 19, 2012, check out “ Baby Boomers/Fit After 50” at  http://www.moveforwardpt.com/Resources/Detail.aspx?cid=c44b7f87-e37c-4274-9cd8-5f2a79c9129e for daily tips for baby boomers on how to stay mobile and prevent injury after age 50.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
