32 years in this business, have found those seven throat-clearing, knuckle-cracking, knot-in-the-stomach words for many clients are:

You're going to need to trust me.

*NOT* a starting salvo, but to be included, and understood to be a practical part of the process, at some point of the inital consult. Some get it, but more twist, confused why the conversation has strayed from aesthetics. Good chemistry is a vital part of successful projects, and TRH urges prospective clients to rank it up with there with ideas and price.

Whether updating, or getting ready to sell, projects begin by defining the destination, then work back to form the scope of work. Things evolve, and there will be unknowns. Even for the most focused or uber-organized, rarely do projects stay on a straight expressway with a clear view. But there is a point where what the client knows, understands, can visualize or do themselves ends. Which is why they hire me.
