Mahopac Teacher Honored by Science Association

Heather McArdle’s knowledge of science is rock solid. The Mahopac High School Science teacher has been named Teacher of the Year by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) for the Eastern Section of the United States. McArdle, who teaches Earth Science, Geology, and AP Geology, was recognized for her methodology of natural resource extraction balanced with environmental responsibility, which emphasizes critical thinking skills among her students. She is one of six finalists for the organization’s national Teacher of the Year Award.

McArdle gives credit to the Mahopac School District for the wide array of sciences that the high school offers. “Mahopac has been in the forefront of new national standards in recognizing the importance of earth science education to college and career success,” said McArdle. “The college-level geology class, as well as the variety of AP science courses offered by the district, is a credit to the school board, the staff, and the Mahopac community.”
