Yorktown Students and Staff Are Happy to be Back in Session

We are counting our blessings as Yorktown students and staff return to school today...please be aware of important schedule changes going forward...

My family's power returned at 8:30 a.m. Monday morning, just in time for me to grab a hot shower at home, and not at the local gym (though thanks for the offer)! All schools opened on Monday with a two-hour delay, and it was wonderful to see students and staff back in action. We are all counting our blessings.

With the exception of a few downed trees, and a tennis court fence that bent with the brunt of last week's winds, we are lucky to have little physical damage on school grounds. Thanks to the hard-working team of Director of Facilities Dennis Verboys, all is being cleaned up quickly.

Brookside Elementary School is still without telephone or Internet service, so if parents need to reach the Brookside staff, please call 243-8000 extension 18505, and your message will be relayed. Thank you for your patience while the issue is resolved.

Monday's Board of Education meeting has been cancelled, as was the SEPTA/YCSD movie and farm-to-table tasting. Darn! I was hoping to figure out a way to make both. The next BOE meeting will be on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. in the MESMS cafeteria.

The other key piece of info parents should already know is that students in grades 1-12 will be in school all day Tuesday, Nov. 6! Parent-teacher conferences have been cancelled in favor of having students back in class. Please check the district and school calendars for the most current event info at www.yorktown.org.  There are other date changes sure to follow.

We hope that our Lakeland neighbors will soon be back in schools, and that folks have patience and navigate the roadways safely while we all repair and rebuild.
