Come marvel at the artistic and heart-felt labels designed by the 6th grade girls in Girl Scout Troop 1358. See the label here and look for it there, knowing that there will be one on each item. The girls planned the bake sale, are baking for it, and will be volunteering their services. Their partnership with the Friends of the Library has made this a really meaningful community endeavor. This troop of 13 girls has shown thoughtfulness and community spirit as well as creativity and initiative. Read the labels. Then purchase their delicious baked goods with full knowledge. No guess work here.

Join the activities. Try your luck with raffles. You’ll have a wide choice that includes beautiful themed baskets and gift certificates donated by local merchants. Children and adults can make your own bookmarks. Children will have free access to educational game tables such as word and letter bingo. There will be wooden puzzles for younger children to put together. There will be food and drinks available all day. In the afternoon, Abbots Ice-Cream will bring its ice-cream truck to the library. One-third of the proceeds of sales will go directly to the Children’s Room Make-over.

The Friends of the John C. Hart Memorial Library are grateful to the support of the Yorktown community. Its enthusiastic response to the Penny Social and its benefit to the Children’s Room Make-over is a clear indication of how much the library means to adults, youth, and children.  Library-goers donated wonderful items for the raffle. Local merchants donated gift certificates that range from classes to meals. The Girl Scout Troop 1358 threw themselves whole heartedly into this collaborative and exciting undertaking.

Thank you all. This is a wonderful community to live and work in.

Please join your friends, family, neighbors, and colleagues  at the Hart Library on Saturday, June 23 between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. for a day of fun, education, food and drinks.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
