Somers Christmas Tree Set to Sparkle on Sunday

The Christmas Tree lighting ceremony on Dec. 8 will feature hot chocolate, gingerbread houses, crafts and songs.

The Christmas Tree outside the Elephant Hotel in Somers is officially set to sparkle on Sunday, Dec. 8 when residents can enjoy a 3-hour long holiday celebration filled with music, treats and a special appearance by Santa. 

The day's events will begin at 2 p.m. at the Wright House Homestead when you can enjoy children's crafts, refreshments and music by harpist Athena Travers until 4:30 p.m. 

Starting at 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. children can take pictures with Santa at the first floor of the Elephant Hotel.

The Somers Historical Society's Museum Open House will feature the "Dolls from Holidays Past and Present" exhibition from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the third floor.

Also at 3 p.m. will be the dedication of the Nativity Scene at the Elephant Hotel's front lawn. It is sponsored by Msgr. Raymond M. Collins, of the Knights of Columbus in cooperation with St. Luke's Episcopal Church and St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church of Somers. 

The 10th annual gingerbread house display will be held from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the first floor, while holiday music will be provided by Rich and Harry Egor from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the front law. You can also enjoy complimentary hot cocoa from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

Residents can join the Somers Girl Scouts for a special sing-along from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. before the events culminate with the Christmas Tree lighting at 5 p.m. 

Sponsors of the events include the Somers Lions Club, Somers Girl Scouts, Somers Historical Society and student historians and the Somers Chamber of Commerce.
