Yorktown Girl Scout Honored for Achieving Gold Award

Yorktown Girls Scout Julia Nigro has earned the highest award a girl scout can receive – the "Gold Award" – for her project at the Rosary Hill Home, a home for terminally ill cancer patients in Hawthorne.

Nigro was congratulated by Yorktown Town Board members on Dec. 17 for having officially earned the award in October.

The Yorktown High School senior's project was called "Gazebo of Serenity." For it, she completely refurbished a gazebo which is used by the patients and their visitors. The beautification project included sanding and staining of the entire structure as well as replacing all the screened windows.

Yorktown Councilman Vishnu Patel presented Nigro with a congratulatory certificate on behalf of Yorktown Town Board members.
