Yorktown Collects 16.65 Tons of Roadside Litter and Debris

A total of 585 volunteers in 114 groups participated in the 25th annual "Battle of Yorktown" clean up effort.

Yorktown residents waged their annual war against litter and caught the Earth Day spirit by collecting 16.65 tons of roadside litter and debris.

That's four tons more than what was collected last year, which was 12.26 tons.

Kim Angliss-Gage, recycling coordinator for the town of Yorktown, said the community is now "cleaner and greener" thanks to all the volunteers who participated in the 25th annual clean-up event "The Battle of Yorktown."

The event, which is coordinated by town's Refuse and Recycling Department, took place on Saturday, April 20. A total of 585 volunteers in 114 groups participated. Town officials distributed 1,032 orange litter bags for the event.

"A note of appreciate goes out to 10 Yorktown scout troops who pitched in, and then after their labors, enjoyed a jamboree at the Grange," Angliss-Gage said.
