Yorktown's Eliseo Family, Displaced by Fire, Needs Your Help

Marie Eliseo – the oldest daughter of Giulio and Maria Eliseo – had just finished her Christmas shopping for her family before their Wildwood Street home was completely destroyed in Sunday's fire.

Just days before Thanksgiving when the family of five was supposed to put up their Christmas tree, they've lost everything.

Yet, Eliseo is most thankful that her mother Maria made it out of the house safely thanks to the two men – Brian Avery and Robert Cole – who helped save her from the burning home

"The house can be replaced," Eliseo told Patch. "They are my heroes. They are my [mother]'s heroes."

The Yorktown community is now embracing the close-knit family and collecting donations and gifts for the Eliseos. The family – parents Giulio and Maria Eliseo, oldest daughter Marie, daughter Bernadette “Bernie” and youngest son Giulio – needs everything from the inside to the outside.

Items and donations can be dropped off at Avery's home at 3668 Edge Hill Road in Yorktown, or at Brian's Automotive in Peekskill

Fabric Mart, the store located on Crompond Road in Yorktown Heights, is soliciting donations in the form of gift certificates in any denomination from stores such as WalMart, Kohl's, K-Mart, Bed, Bath & Beyond, A & P, ShopRite, Stop 'n' Shop.

The store is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.. For more information contact: Erin at (914) 962-3328 or fabricmartny@msn.com. Gift certificates will be collected through the month of December.

The Eliseo family is currently staying locally with relatives.

They are asking the community to help find their black dog Nero who they believe survived the fire. People with information can call the family's neighbor Ina at 914-656-2816.

The family's three other dogs Bandit, Roxie and Buddy are presumed dead.
