Somers to Hold Blood Drive for Boy Diagnosed with Leukemia

It has been scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Somers Intermediate School, located at 240 Route 202.

A blood drive for Daniel Turner, a Somers Intermediate School student who has been diagnosed with leukemia, has been scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school.

Turner was diagnosed with leukemia while he was on summer vacation with his family in the United Kingdom. So far, he has received four transfusions of whole blood and two transfusions of platelets, according to a flyer about the blood drive.

"He is likely to need more transfusions over the next few months as his chemotherapy continues," the flyer said.

The blood drive, which was originally scheduled for Dec. 14 but rescheduled due to the snow storm, will be held on Jan. 24 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Somers Intermediate School, located at 240 Route 202.
