Members of the Yorktown Smart Growth are organizing a meeting on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m. when they will present their concerns about the Costco application.

The presentation, titled "Is Costco Right for Our Town?," will be held at 7:30 p.m. at The Mohansic Grill (formerly the 19th Hole), located at the Mohansic Golf Course in Yorktown.

During the meeting members will discuss the impact of the 151,092-square-foot store on:

• Traffic on Route 202 and adjacent roads
• Local merchants and retailers
• Flooding and other environmental issues
• The Comprehensive Plan for Yorktown’s future
development

They will also discuss the draft environmental impact statement (DEIS) prepared by the Costco developer.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
