Yorktown Veteran Posthumously Inducted into Hall of Fame

During his service, Robert Perry earned the Silver Star, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal.

Yorktown's Robert Perry was posthumously inducted into the second annual Veterans’ Hall of Fame, which was created by Senator Greg Ball and designed to honor outstanding veterans.

Perry, who worked for the town of Yorktown's parks and recreation department and the highway department, was born in Vermont in September of 1923. He passed on May 29, 2009.

He served in the United States Army, 7th Cavalry for two years and 10 months, achieving the rank of Technician 5th Grade. During his service, the man earned the Silver Star, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal.

Perry was a member of the Yorktown American Legion, the Yorktown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8328, the Yorktown Elks, and was a member of the Yorktown Fire Department for 60 years.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
