Yorktown: The Day After Irene

Dry ice from Con Ed will be distributed today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Triangle Shopping Center in Yorktown Heights. NYSEG dry ice distribution location will be made available as soon as it becomes known.

This morning several roads in Yorktown remain closed due to downed trees, including Crow Hill Road, Hanover Street, Stoney Street, Mohegan Avenue, Hunterbrook Road, Lexington Avenue, White Hill Road.

Detour signs are posted where appropriate. Officials said they urge drivers to use caution as the roads may appear to be in satisfactory condition, but the blacktop could be undermined.

4,799 NYSEG customers continue to be without power as of this morning. The company will be distributing dry ice to residents in the area. Information on the distribution location will be made available as soon as it becomes known.

Hundreds of Con Ed customers are also without power this morning. Dry ice from the company will be distributed on Monday, Aug. 29, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. throughout Westchester, including Yorktown at the Triangle Shopping Center, located at 20 Triangle Center. Supervisor Susan Siegel said town town officials are working closely with Con Ed and NYSEG on the restoration of power, and "residents are asked to be patient."

Phone service to the was knocked out last night and all calls are being redirected to the county police, Siegel said. As of 8 a.m., Town Hall remained without electricity.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
