An Evening with Pulitzer Prize winning Author Robert K. Massie

When/Where: Friday, March 2, 7 p.m. at the  in Irvington

Why Go: The Irvington Historical Society invites you to an evening with Pulitzer Prize winning author, Robert K. Massie. He will discuss his latest book, Catherine the Great, and autograph copies of the book afterwards. Refreshments will be served.

Price: $5 for society members, $10 for non-members

 

Cross-Cultural Connection Inaugural Fundraiser "Celebrating Mardi Gras"

When/Where: Saturday, March 3, 7 p.m., at the , 1038 Brown Street, Peekskill

Why Go: Peekskill's Cross-Cultural Connection is dedicated to promoting jazz culture, fostering education and live performance in schools, colleges and communities. This year, there is a goal to raise $25,000 to meet their programming needs. You can join for a parade (weather permitting), a New Orleans dinner, live music and celebration to support the organization. The guest speaker will be jazz educator, arranger Vince Corozine.

A Special 'Living With Cancer' Benefit Concert at The BeanRunner Cafe

When/Where: Sunday, March 4, 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at  in Peekskill

Why Go: Rob Morsberger is a singer-songwriter and classically-trained composer. His album, 'The Chronicle of A Literal Man', was featured on PRI/NPR and received raves in several prominent publications. He was diagnosed with brain cancer last year as his latest album, “Ghosts Before Breakfast,” was released. For this benefit concert, Rob will be joined by master guitarist, Peter Calo, best known for his work with Carly Simon, and will be joined by many other special guests.

Price: Suggested donation $30 (or whatever folks can afford).

 

Bread-Making at Hilltop Hanover Farm and Soup Making Course

When/Where:  Saturday, March 3, 10 a.m. for bread-making and 1 p.m. for the soup course at  in Yorktown

Why Go: Participants will learn how to make fresh, home-baked multi-grain breads with yeast and baking soda. Later, the chefs at Hilltop Hanover Farm will teach you how to make your own hearty soups using seasonal ingredients. On-line registration is required.

Price: Classes are $20 per person

 

Emelin Theater: Tap Sensation Savion Glover on Friday and on Saturday: Nate the Great

When/Where: Savion Glover on Friday, March 2, 8 p.m. On Saturday, March 3, Nate the Great at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the  in Mamaroneck.

Why Go: In his latest show, SoLe Sanctuary, Glover weaves tap and eclectic dance traditions into a breathtaking montage of speed, rhythm and song.

Nate the Great, is a musical featuring a pint-sized young detective who takes on his toughest case yet in a story about teamwork and friendship that carries on the grand tradition of crime-solving detectives like Sherlock Holmes, Nero Wolfe and Charlie Chan.  It is based on the first volume in Marjorie Weinman Sharmat`s classic book series.

Price: Savion Glover tickets: $75. Tickets for Nate the Great: $18 adults; $13 children

 

"Days of Wine and Roses" at The Schoolhouse Theater

When/Where: March 1 through March 25, Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. at The Schoolhouse Theater in Croton Falls.

Why Go: JP Miller's biting drama, Days of Wine and Roses was made famous by the 1962 movie starring Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick. It is an intense portrayal of a young couple and their struggles with alcohol. The Schoolhouse will also present Talk Back sessions immediately following three of the performances. After the March 4 performance, Annah Perch, Executive Director of Stepping Stones, the former home of AA founder, Bill Wilson will be on hand. Broadway producer Tony Fusco follows on March 11 and playwright Loring Mandel will be at the third session after the March 18th performance.

Price: Tickets are $33 on Thursday and Friday and $35 on Saturday and Sunday.

 

Bedford Riding Lanes Tag Sale

When/Where: Saturday, March 3, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at 129 Katonah's Wood Road, Katonah

Why Go: The proceeds from this tag sale go to the Bedford Riding Lanes to help maintain the riding trails. There will be 15 sellers who range from antiques dealers with horse related items, to those selling new handmade clothes for dogs and cats, to several people selling their used riding and horse equipment.

Young Artists Exhibit at Katonah Museum of Art

When/Where: SundayMarch 4 – 11, at the . Hours are: Tuesday through Saturday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sunday, 12 noon-5 p.m., closed Monday.

Why Go: For its 29th year, the Young Artists exhibition showcases the extraordinary talents of 300 seniors from the Museum’s member high schools in Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Dutchess, and Fairfield counties. This annual exhibition of works by high school seniors gives aspiring artists an opportunity to participate in all aspects of a museum exhibition. With the guidance of professionals, the participants organize, publicize, curate, and mount their own exhibition.
