Seasonal Temperatures Return, Make Your Resolutions Count, Winter Concerts and More

Here are five things you need to know, Jan. 4.

1. Seasonal Temperatures Return

The warm, green Christmas that led to a 50-degree New Year is but a distant memory with  Wednesday is expected to be cloudy with a high near 25. Wind chill values as low as -3.

Wednesday night there is a slight chance of snow showers before 1 a.m. Forecasters say it will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 20. Thursday it could warm up into the 30s, according to the National Weather Service. Brrr.

2. Vacation is Over

Local kids got back in school on Tuesday after a long winter break. After school activities resume and homework starts up. Do you have any tips to share on getting everyone back into the swing of things?

5. Winter Concerts Announced

The  has announced its winter concerts. Walter Panas High School Chorus, Band & Orchestra concert will be held on Friday, Jan. 6 at 7 p.m. and Orchestra concerts is on Tuesday, Jan. 10 and Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Walter Panas High School Performing Arts Center.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
