Score a Home Run and Benefit People Affected by Cancer

Support Connection's third annual 'Home Run Derby for a Cause' will be held on Aug. 4 at the Peekskill Stadium.

, the not-for-profit organization that provides free, confidential support services and programs to people affected by breast and ovarian cancer, is calling all baseball fans for their third annual "Home Run Derby for a Cause."

The derby will be held on Aug. 4 at the Peekskill Stadium, located on Louisa Street in Peekskill. The derby starts at 4 p.m. It will raise money for Support Connection’s support services.

Michelle DeIeso, development and outreach coordinator for Support Connection, who comes from a family that was always involved with baseball and softball came up with the idea for the event. Through the “calling all men” campaign, organizers want to provide a way for men to get involved and support the organization. 

Participants can enter the derby for a $25 donation. Each player will receive 10 hits and the person with the most home runs wins. The player with the most home runs wins. Prizes for first and second place plus tee-shirts for all participants. Spectators are welcome to attend for a $10 donation, kids under 12 are free.

Participanst can enjoy music, mascots, and concession stand. Also after the derby, you can enjoy the Fireworks Extravaganza Show, courtesy of Peekskill Celebration. There will be shuttle buses available during the afternoon and evening from the celebration.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
