Sandy Watch: Emergency Planning Preparedness List

The Yorktown Police Department has issued a list of items you should bring in case you are required to evacuate.

In the event that residents are require to evacuate from your residence, the Yorktown Police Department has issued an emergency preparedness list with personal supplies residents should bring to accommodate them for three days away from their home.

"Below is a list of some items you may need but not think of during the time you are asked to evacuate and the time you actually evacuate," the Yorktown Police Department said in a press release. "This list is somewhat comprehensive and is provided to help you in your decision making during the stress of an evacuation. Take the time to review the list ahead of time and add to it any items unique to you as an individual."

  • Shoes/Sneakers 
  • Jackets/Sweaters (evacuation shelters tend to be cool)

  • Cash

  • Address book (include doctors' names in case of emergency) 
  • Cell phone/pager/palm pilot 
  • Walkman/Portable CD player W/headphones (for teens) 
  • Small pad of paper 
  • 2 pencils/pens
  • Gum, candy, health bars 
  • Small flashlight with 2 sets of spare batteries
