Presidents' Day: What's Open & Closed in Yorktown and Somers

Monday is a federal holiday in honor of the nation's first president, George Washington, sometimes called "Presidents' Day," such as in our headline. Here's a starter list of what's open and closed.

Own a business or involved in an organization in Yorktown or Somers? Tell us in the comments thread below whether you're open, closed or holding special hours on Monday, a federal holiday.

What's Closed

Local

  • Government offices: Yorktown and Somers town halls are closed for Washington's Birthday. Strictly speaking, Monday is known as Washington's Birthday (though the great man was born Feb. 22), and has only become known as "Presidents Day" more recently to also ecompass Abraham Lincoln's Feb. 12 birthday (in New York, a state holiday).
  • Libraries: John C. Hart Memorial Library and the Somers Public Library are closed.
  • Post offices—There will be no mail delivered or sent Monday.
  • Public schools—No school Monday due to the holiday.
