Manhunt in Putnam for LI Shooting Suspect

[Update, 2:05 p.m.] The search for the Sang Ho Kim is continuing, Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith said during a press conference that wrapped up at about 1 p.m. He was joined by members of several other law enforcement agencies, including the the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the New York State Police and the New York State Parks Police.

Officials are unsure if Kim—who they consider to be armed and dangerous—is alive and are exploring several different scenarios.

State troopers are blocking the entrance to northbound Route 9D in Cold Spring and checking the trunks of southbound vehicles approaching the Main Street intersection as authorities search for Sang Ho Kim, the suspect in yesterday's Long Island shooting.

Kim is accused of opening fire at a lighting company Wednesday morning, killing one and seriously injuring another. His car was found here in Putnam County late Wednesday.

Helicopters are buzzing overhead. Reporters from several New York-based news agencies are here, too.

"I only know bits and piece but it's pretty shocking," said Zach Merante, who works at Whistling Willie's, a restaurant in the village, and lives near the area police are searching.

Merante said he didn't hear anything overnight but woke up Thursday morning to texts from family members and friends about the police activity—and a helicopter that sounded like it was "right above" his house.

A resident in Cold Spring for most of his life, Merante said he couldn't remember anything like this ever happening in the village.

The Haldane school district has canceled all classes and activities for the day and police have urged residents of the Cold Spring-Philipstown area to keep their doors locked and to call 911 if they see anything suspicious, according to the Putnam County News and Recorder.
