One Lane on the AMVETS Bridge Opens Tonight

Both lanes will open Wednesday morning. To allow for the striping and final preparations, the DOT will be conducting lane closures on the Taconic State Parkway.

State officials announced this morning that more than a month ahead of schedule the northbound Taconic State Parkway bridge, known as the AMVETS bridge, will reopen to traffic.

To allow for the striping and final preparations, the New York State Department of Transportation will be conducting lane closures on the Taconic State Parkway between State Route 100/133 and Underhill Avenue. Both Yorktown and New Castle are affected.

According to a press release sent by DOT this afternoon, those closures are as follows:

  • Northbound: Tuesday night, Oct. 2, from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m.
  • Southbound: Wednesday, Oct. 3 to Friday, Oct. 5 and again on Tuesday, Oct. 9 to Thursday, Oct. 11, nightly from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m.

Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through the work area and pay particular attention to all traffic control devices, including variable message signs, work zone signs and flaggers.

Susan Stepp, spokesperson for the Department of Transportation, said one lane on the AMVETS bridge will be open by 8 p.m. this evening. Both lanes will be open by tomorrow morning.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
