Monk, Beyer and Scavarda of Troop 165 Receive Eagle Scout Awards

Kyle Monk, Axel Beyer and Matthew Scavarda have received the Eagle Scout Award, which is the highest award the Boy Scouts of America can bestow upon a young man.

Kyle Monk, Axel Beyer and Matthew Scavarda, of BSA Troop 165, have received their Eagle Court of Honor at the First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown.

The Eagle Scout Award is the highest award that the Boy Scouts of America can bestow upon a young man. Yorktown councilman Vishnu Patel presented a Certificate of Achievement on behalf of the Yorktown town board. Patel’s son Amit was also an Eagle Scout from Troop 165.

Monk's project was performed for the First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown where he developed, planned and led fellow scouts and adults in the refurbishing of a tool shed. The project included re-shingling and extending the roof, painting the interior and staining the exterior, installing new shelves, cleaning and organizing the tools and building a concrete ramp and planting new bushes.

Beyer's project was performed for the Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park where he developed, planned and led fellow scouts and adults in the building and installation of 18 benches for the disc golf course on the park grounds. The benches were constructed using fallen locust trees at FDR Park. He worked with FDR's Park Manager Eagle Scout Brian Strasavich on the project.

Scavarda's project was performed for the Putnam Valley Food Pantry where he developed, planned and led fellow scouts and adults in the construction of benches, a bookcase and a sign for the building. In addition, a food drive was held to raise goods for the members of the community who use the food pantry.
