Somers Middle School eighth grader Jessica Monaco was busy slicing strawberries, crushing chocolate chip cookies and adding spoonfuls of yogurt into plastic cups as eager and hungry young eyes looked on.
But she wasn't at home in her family kitchen. The girl scout was in the Somers library teaching local children ages 5 to 10 how to make "The Perfect Parfait" as part of her scouting project.
The author of a soon-to-be published cookbook, Jessica shared her recipe with a handful of Somers residents Saturday morning and also read them several stories as they enjoyed their parfaits. Monaco will repeat the program again at the library Thursday at 11:30 a.m.
