'Make a Wild Thing;' Engineering Summer Camp; Vote for Best Locket Inscription

Here are five things you need to know today, Feb. 20.

1. Make a Wild Thing

Children are invited to make their own "wild thing puppet" at the Somers Library today at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

2. Engineering Summer Camp in Yorktown

The Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES’ Exploring Engineering camp will be held June 24-28 on the BOCES Yorktown campus. If you're interested, email summercamp@pnwboces.org or call 845-225-9256.

3. Yorktown High School Prom Panel Tonight

The Yorktown High School prom panel event is tonight at 7 p.m. at the high school auditorium.

4. Vote for the Best Locket Inscriptions

5. Harlem Magic Masters vs Lakeland Dream Team

The Harlem Magic Masters will play the Lakeland Dream Team coached by Superintendent of Schools Dr. George Stone on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. in Walter Panas HS gymnasium.

The event is sponsored by the Panas Parents Club. Advance ticket sales are $10 for students/$12 for adults. Prices at the door are $12 for students/$15 for adults. First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
