Lakeland's David Acevedo Becomes Eagle Scout

For his project, the high school freshman hosted three food drives to benefit the Community Pantry at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church of Mohegan Lake.

David Acevedo, a freshman at  and a member of the BSA Troop 173 out of , has earned Scouting's highest honor.

He recently received his Court of Honor – the official presentation of his Eagle Scout certificates and medal, and includes letters of congratulation.

The 14-year-old was honored with a ceremony by Senator Greg Ball, Yorktown supervisor Michael Grace, councilman Vishnu Patel and other distinguished members of the Yorktown community. 

For David’s Eagle Scout Service project, he hosted three food drives to benefit the Community Pantry at of Mohegan Lake. He helped to provide the pantry with food items needed for their Christmas meal distribution as well as items needed for everyday consumption.

The Eagle Scout also collected toys for the children of families in need. With the help of his fellow scouts, David collected more than 1,500 food items in about 9 hours.

In January, as part of the project David  at . He was able to increase the donor list by 61 percent and collected 112 pints of blood, a record for the , his mother said. 

David’s extracurricular activities include being a soccer referre, playing soccer and being a part of two travel teams.  to read more about David and his blood drive earlier this year.

"There are only a small percent of scouts that ever make it to this ranking and I would like to congratulate David for all his hard work to achieve this great honor," Senator Greg Ball said. "David is a great leader that we can all be proud of. I look forward to great things from him in the future."
