Joseph L. Rubsam of Somers Dies at 86

Expressions of sympathy can be made in Rubsam's name to the Alzheimer's Association.

Joseph L. Rubsam, of Somers, died peacefully on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012 with his family at his side. He was 86.

Rubsam was born in Brooklyn on Aug. 31, 1926, the son of John and Anna (Siebert) Rubsam. He is survived by his wife Catharine (Heydner) Rubsam with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.

He is also survived by his daughter Kathleen Muleski and her husband Robert, and his son Joseph Rubsam and his wife Catherine. His son Robert Rubsam pre-deceased him in 1986. Also surviving are loving grandchildren Meaghan, Robert, and Siobhan Rubsam, and his brother John Rubsam and sister-in-law Mary Ann.

Rubsam was raised in Ridgewood, Queens and lived for over 40 years in Glendale. He graduated from Yale University in 1947 and served in the Naval Reserve. He worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for 41 years and retired as Vice President and Actuary in 1988.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and an active member of St. Joseph's Church of Croton Falls. The man enjoyed travel, gardening, reading and crossword puzzles. 

Rubsam was buried on Thursday, Jan. 3 at St. John's Cemetery, Middle Village.
