Nearly All of Yorktown, Somers Without Power as of Tuesday Evening [Updated]

Thousands of NYSEG and ConEd customers in Yorktown and Somers are without power as of late Tuesday night.

Nearly all of Yorktown and Somers residents are without power as of Tuesday night due to damage from Super Storm Sandy.  

New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG):

NYSEG is reporting 7,982 Somers customers (out of 9,087) and 6,461 (out of 6,463) Yorktown customers without power as of 11:01 p.m. Tuesday The number of locals without power has been steadily climbing throughout the day.

NYSEG urges customers to stay away from downed power lines – even lines that appear "dead" can be deadly. NYSEG customers should call 1-800-572-1131 to report downed power lines or other hazardous situations.

Damages inflicted by the storm will take days to repair, according to a NYSEG press release. Crews will begin "comprehensive damage assessment" on Wednesday, followed by the distribution of estimated restoration times.

Consolidated Edison (ConEd):

There are 6,205ConEd customers (out of a total of 8,173 customers) in Yorktown who are without power as of 10:01 p.m. Tuesday. There are currently no restoration times posted.

Con Edison said this is the "largest storm-related outage in our history." With high water levels in some of Westchester County's areas Tuesday morning, Con Edison crews are not yet able to assess damage and make repairs.

No power restoration time has been given.
