Feed 50 Local Families Through 25th Annual Somers Food Drive

The Somers Central School District is organizing the drive. You can contribute feeding local families by dropping off items at the The Merritt Agency until Nov. 19.

The Somers Chamber of Commerce is supporting the 25th annual Somers Food Drive. It is organized by Theresa Reda and the teachers of the Somers Central School District.

Donations will help feed 50 local children and their families in need during the holidays as well as when schools are closed.

Items needed are: Non-perishable, healthy food items for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, including cereals, oatmeal, pasta, crackers, energy bars, canned vegetables and fruit. Local grocery store gift cards are welcome, too.

People can contribute until Nov. 19 and drop off items are the The Merritt Agency (Allstate) in the Somers Towne Shopping Centre, as well as at each of the Somers schools. All donations will be distributed by St. Luke's Church.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
