Celebrate Your Father, Top Delinquent Taxpayers, Grow Your Business, Funniest Person Contest

Here are five things you need to know today, June 16.

1. Celebrate Your Father

Looking to give your dad the best Father's Day gift without breaking the bank? Honor your dad by emailing a picture of him to plamena@patch.com. Include his name, where he lives (what hamlet of Yorktown), and why your dad is so awesome and we will post it on Yorktown Patch.

2. Calling All Funny People

And you know who you are! This summer, local comedy producers are searching for the area’s funniest people to take part in a comedy contest for cash prizes, comedy bookings, gift certificates to area businesses and the title of “Lower Hud’s Funniest Person.” Residents must register no later than July 5th. 

3. Grow Your Business Seminar

Want to learn how to grow your business? The Yorktown Chamber of Commerce is hosting “Grow Your Business Through Effective PR and Marketing” seminar today from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at The Mansion at Colonial Terrace (119 Oregon Rd., Cortlandt Manor, NY). The interactive session will feature a panel of three experts who will share tips and insight on how to develop an effective PR and marketing strategy for your business that generates increased awareness and sales. 

The panel discussion will be followed by a networking reception with complimentary appetizers and a cash bar. This seminar is free for Chamber members and $25 for non-members. Please RSVP to info@yorktownchamber.org.

4. Top Delinquent Taxpayers in Yorktown

The town of Yorktown is owed about $3 million in unpaid property taxes, tax receiver Elfriede H. Schmid said. Trump Park owes the highest amount to the town, which is $1,278,877. Check back with us later today for more on the story. 

5. Summer Concert Series Begin Next Week

Mark your calendars! The Yorktown Lion's Club and the Yorktown Parks and Recreation Department will host the annual summer concert series at the John "Jack" De Vito Gazebo on Veterans Road. The first concert is next Sunday, June 26 starting at 6 p.m. with a Bruce Springsteen Tribute. The rain location is in the Yorktown Stage located adjacent to the Gazebo at the Yorktown Community and Cultural Center. For the full schedule, click here.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
