Hundreds of children stood anxiously behind a white line waiting for the signal to go. A brief countdown from five and they were off and running, picking up as many of the 8,000 colorful easter eggs that lay scattered across the field at Downing Park as they could, placing them in baskets, buckets and bags.
There were several special large eggs scattered among the thousands of others which when found, were rewarded with special Easter baskets as prizes, but every child was given a small prize for their efforts. The Yorktown Lions Club and the Yorktown Parks and Recreation Department co-sponsored the annual event.
