9/11 Memorial Ceremonies; Earrings for Battered Women, Somers BOE Meeting

1. 9/11 Memorial Ceremonies

Yorktown will pay tribute today to those who were killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The town of Yorktown will hold a memorial ceremony at the Shrub Oak Memorial Plaza, which is set up by the .

2. Earrings for Battered Women's Shelters

Make earrings for yourself and for a Battered Women's Shelter. You can bring any old bead jewelry that you can recycle into earrings. If you have any jewelry making tools, bring them along too. The program, which will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. at the John C. Hart Memorial Library in Shrub Oak, is limited to 30 participants. You need register for this program.

3. Katonah 5K Top Finishers

Congratulations to Brian Pike, 35, of Shrub Oak, who was one of the top finishers in the Katonah 5K race, held on Saturday. He finished second with a time of 18:52.

4. Somers BOE Meeting

Somers board of education members will meet tonight at 7 p.m. at the Somers Middle School library. Click here for the agenda.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
