Music Marathon to Support Mary Jo's Run for MSKCC

Rock bands across the country are helping to support Mary Jo Sarro "Mamma Sarro" and her NYC Marathon Run on November 4, 2012 to raise money and awareness for cancer research.

Rock bands across the country are helping to support food guru Mary Jo Sarro "Mamma Sarro" and her NYC Marathon Run on Nov. 4, 2012 to raise money and awareness for cancer research.

"It is uplifting to see the incredible energy to raise awareness for this important cause. The bands are getting the word out in a fun way," says Mary Jo.

Bill Morris, who is organizing the Marathon Rock-a-Thon, says, "Nearly every family has been affected by cancer and benefits from this crucial research. Our artists association and musicians network is sharing with everyone the Mary Jo Sarro 'Mamma Sarro' Fundraising Page for Memorial Sloan-Kettering, all this month through Halloween. It's a friendly race to get the donations in as quickly as possible. This is a race in which everyone can win!"

For Donations, here is the link to the Fundraising Page:

  • Battle of the Bands Fundraising Race:

When making a donation on the fundraising page, in the donor's name entry area, people simply can add the name of the participating band they support in this friendly Battle of the Bands Fundraising Race. We can tally the progress as we reach for our goals.

Morris says, "We are taking this national and everywhere we go we are telling people to get behind Mary Jo's Marathon Run. We are asking everyone to donate, get behind a band and say, GO, MAMMA!"

Here are some of the bands and the towns and cities they represent.

  • Yorktown Alumni Musicians (Bill Morris) - Yorktown, NY
  • Jessie Youngquest "da Prof" - Lodi, NY (has several bands)

"We have already raised $740 with this kickoff weekend and would love to reach our goal of $6,000 for the Hospital before Halloween," explains Mary Jo. "My husband, Chris, will be coordinating all the fundraising activities. We want to thank everyone for supporting the hospital that is so critical to our daughter Michelle's care and to the research that is helping everyone."

When you make your donation, just add the band's name to the donor's name and we will keep a running tally (e.g. "Chris Sarro/Yorktown Alumni Musicians" or just "Yorktown Alumni Musicians" for an anonymous donation).

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
