Is Martial Arts Training Beneficial For My Child?

Are you sick and tired of hearing and reading about violence and bullying? This upsets me and I bet most readers feel the same way. Violence is everywhere - in the news, in music, in video games, on TV and in the movies...violence is glorified.

Many people associate self-defense with violence and think that learning Taekwondo will instill violent tendencies in their children. This is far from the truth. Martial Arts is not the brutal sport and vicious pastime that movies portray.

When I first started to learn Taekwondo at the age of 13, I wanted to be just like Bruce Lee. Taekwondo saved my life and made me who I am today. I’ve been teaching Taekwondo for over 25 years and if you've read any of my blogs you know that living a Black Belt life is paramount to my existence. Hey, if I didn’t espouse the many benefits of Taekwondo then I wouldn't be living up to and fulfilling my Worthy Ideal which is “to impact and create a better society for all people in the community through Martial Arts training and Taekwondo; teaching and living a Black Belt life.”

Today I offer up Ken Myers’ blog; 10 Reasons Martial Arts Benefits Kids. Ken is not a Martial Arts instructor. In fact I don't even know if he practices Taekwondo though maybe his children took lessons. He is active in the childcare industry and has experience serving as CFO, CTO, COO, and CEO of several business ventures and participating in various organizational boards.

Learning Martial Arts is a great way to complement your parenting skills and will reinforce the life lessons you teach your child or children.

Do your own research, visit several Martial Art schools, speak with instructors, parents of students, and students to see how each operation is run. Ask for an introductory session.

Improving and fostering self-discipline, socialization, physical activity, goal-setting, self-esteem, respect, non-violent conflict resolution, listening skills, teamwork, confidence, focus, and integrity...are just some of the benefits gained from Martial Arts training.

Thank you for this opportunity to serve you.
