Local firefighters put their “firehouse chili” to the test
H&R Block is hosting the First Annual Fireman’s Chili Cook-Off & Fundraiser in support of our local fire stations. This community supported event will take place on March 1st, 2014 at Center Court, Marketplace Mall from 1:00pm – 5:00pm. Monroe County Volunteer Fire Departments will showcase their famous “firehouse chili” for judging by area personalities and internationally renowned chefs. Among the judges for the event are Rachael Barnhart, WROC TV8 News Anchor, Chef Bradford Yearwood, Chef Michael Macri, Chef Brian Mattice, Chef Carlo Piretti, and Executive Chef Don Antinore. The judging will take place from 2:00pm – 3:30pm with the judges looking at creativity, presentation and overall best taste. There will be a “People’s Choice Award” and a “Best Overall” judges award plus many other drawings/prizes. This is a time when the community can come out and support their local fire station.
Among the other activities there will be a “Kids Korner” with face painting, a coloring contest and an ‘Ident-A-Kid’ kit for the first 50 participating children. Tax professionals will also be on hand to answer tax questions and to provide hourly “Fireside Chats” on topics such as the Affordable Care Act, Retirement, Health Savings Accounts and changes to the 2013 tax laws.
