Victoria's Confections, Cards & Gifts Closes on Downing Drive in Yorktown

Even though the two stores have closed, next door to them – Sophia's Pizza – is planning on expanding into the Cards & Gifts space.

Two stores have closed down for business on Downing Drive in Yorktown – Victoria's Confections, which opened just a few months ago, and Cards & Gifts.

With a new concept in mind, Yorktown resident Victoria Addino opened up Victoria's Confections in early August. Her store sold crepes, gelato, hard ice cream, self-serve frozen yogurt, individual pastries, milkshakes, cotton candy, popcorn, slushies and more than 250 kinds of candy you can place in a bag and weigh.

Meanwhile, Sophia’s Pizza, which is located right next door in the shopping plaza, is planning to expand into the closed Cards & Gifts space, co-owner Anthony Salvatore told Patch.

Salvatore, a Yorktown resident, said the pizzeria currently has six tables and with the expansion they would be able to offer dining to about 50 to 60 people.

"It would be in our best interest to do this, and hopefully in Yorktown's best interest," he said.

According to a poster placed in Sophia's Pizza window, once the expansion is complete, they would serve lunch and dinner Mondays through Thursdays until 10 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays until 11 a.m. and Sundays until 9 p.m.

While Victoria's was a good idea, there are too many places in town that almost provide the same thing. Twist, Lovin' Spoonfuls, and the place down the street from Mavis Discount Tire (too many of them is why I don't know the name!) are more than enough. Something different has to open in Yorktown. Wayback Burger is amazing and a great addition to Yorktown, but I feel their location is going to be a challenge for steady business. I hope Sophia's does well with the expansion, they have the best pizza in town!

Love Sophia's pizza! Great news about their expansion so that I can always get a table!

The place near Mavis is JJ's, and they are still open (just drove past yesterday and was surprised to see it). Victoria's did not have a focus, they wanted to be all things to all people. I am surprised they didn't try putting out coupons, or something like a Groupon to bring in business. I would have bought one.
